Meet Dr. Luz Maria

With a Master in Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Luz Maria knows the ins and outs of relationship ups and downs. She worked in private practice, at the Logan Heights Behavioral Health Center, and taught at Grossmont College for nearly a decade.

She has curated an impressive wealth of knowledge on the subject of sexuality within relationships, and finds fulfillment by sharing this wisdom through individual and family relationship coaching and consulting. Her work involves:

Improving intimacy
Developing communication in couples
Healing body shame and attachment wounds
Low emotional sexual desire
Solving family conflicts
Successfully raising physically-challenged children

Her sought-after perspective has been called on for over 20 years, heard on the radio show “En Familia con la Doctora Luz” on Recuerdos 1030AM, and further commissioned through her bi-monthly column in La Prensa. Additionally, Dr. Luz Maria spends time working for the non-profit Latinas With Purpose, of which she is Founder and President.

"My son, with whom I have a deep connection, is deaf-blind. Years ago he asked me, “mom would you have a conversation on sexuality with my deaf friend, she does not have anyone to talk to.” Well, this happened again and again with different friends.

I started to notice a need for this conversation, and how there was little display of touch and love from others to people who are differently-able. I stand that all human beings have the right to express passion, connection, love and sex.”
